In a new interview with Kerrang!, guitarist Zakk Wylde was asked whether he had ever sustained a “stupid” injury, which led the musician to share a story about how he broke his hand while on tour with Pantera.
“I broke my hand when we were doing the Pantera celebration, doing the roulette wheel for the meet and greet,” Wylde revealed. “I spin the wheel, and if they win… Well, everyone’s a winner all the time.
“Anyway, the ball bounced out, I went to go grab it, and I smashed my hand on the table and broke it. I played with three fingers for the rest of the tour – a month and a half!”
Wylde then joked that he thinks late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell may have sabotaged him from beyond the grave. “I think that was Dime having fun at my expense. It’s already hard enough to play his stuff, and he must have been like, ‘I’ll just add this to the mix for the comedy…’” Wylde said.
In 2023, original Pantera members Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown embarked on a reunion tour, adding Wylde and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante to the touring lineup in place of the late Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The shows were such a success that the tour will continue on throughout 2025.
