Following a recent Linkin Park show in Tokyo, Japan, the band’s new singer Emily Armstrong is facing some backlash online after eagle-eyed fans noticed she was wearing a piece of controversial attire.
A fan on Twitter/X shared a photo of Armstrong wearing a shirt that features photos from an adult film surrounded by multiple Stars of David. “Emily was literally wearing a shirt with lesbian p****gr*phy on it,” the user wrote.
The fan went as far as to track down the shirt and the website it was purchased from – which has the garment listed at $720.
Many fans in the comment section were quick to call the singer out for the shirt, even bringing up other recent controversies like Armstrong’s involvement in the Church of Scientology. “As someone who liked Emily. This is something I do not agree with praising. Literal kids there. (Also ironic that’s a Scientologist kind of thing to do but no one wants to bring that up),” one fan wrote.
The same Twitter/X user who posted about Armstrong’s shirt made the point, however, that Scientology is notoriously against same-sex marriage and homosexuality. “Do you realize Scientology does not agree with Emily’s sexual orientation?” they explained, adding that the late Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington also wore what some may call inappropriate shirts. “Chester has worn racy shirts as well, including his own clothing line that had images of nude women. No one noticed her shirt until I looked it up,” they said, calling out the double standard.
Still, some fans thought the piece of clothing was just plain ugly. “Can’t determine which is worse, that or spending $720 on an ugly t-shirt,” another fan commented.
The same clothes brand that made the shirt Armstrong was wearing, Enfants Riches Déprimés, came under scrutiny last year after they shared photos on Instagram of Marilyn Manson wearing their clothes.
“Honestly you should be embarrassed. There is nothing hardcore about this poser,” one user wrote, referencing the abuse allegations made against Manson by several women.
“This man brutally beats women, how aesthetic,” another commented.
Last month, it was announced that Manson will not face any criminal charges as the allegations made against him were deemed to “fall outside of the statute of limitations,” according to district attorney Nathan Hochman.
