Alex Burey’s Chocolate: Follow the Saxophone

The title is “Chocolate,” and Alex Burey has supplied a production explanation to match. He lowered the pitch of the whole song. Sometimes the studio decision and the name find each other very neatly.

The Croydon multi-instrumentalist and producer released the single this month through Domino imprint Double Six. In the announcement, he describes it as a song about intimacy, finished over a few sessions in his own studio.

The detail to follow is the saxophone. Burey identifies two parallel lines, including a climbing pitched part, and points to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Dreams” as an inspiration. That gives the listener a specific musical connection to explore after hearing the track.

His brother Mikey Burey made the visualiser, adding a family collaboration to a song assembled in a personal working space. Alex’s wider credits include work with Matt Maltese, Sasha Keable and Loyle Carner, useful next stops for anyone interested in the producer behind the single.

“Chocolate” also appears in the announced Half-Light EP, due November 13, alongside “Unspoken” and two demos. For now, the single is the available entry point.

Play it once for the song, then return with those saxophone parts in mind. A production note can be an invitation to notice something that might otherwise pass by. This one comes with a particularly good title.
