Hulaween 2026: The Music Was Only Part of the Gathering

A festival can give you a favorite set. It can also give you a reason to get on a bicycle with strangers, plant a tree or follow a glowing installation into the woods. Hulaween’s official account of its 2026 edition leaves room for all of those memories.

The gathering ran October 22–25 at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. Organizers report nearly 20,000 attendees across the four days. Their post-festival recap brings together electronic music, improvisational bands and an expanding program of experiences away from the stages.

For readers who know the festival through its lineup, that last part is worth a closer look. A name on a poster tells you who might play. It says less about how the people around that performance spend the rest of their time together.

When the artist comes off the stage

This year’s new Hula Hangs series, developed by MP3 LABS with Hulaween, offered a different setting for that connection. OPIUO Bike Club brought approximately 200 people on a group ride through the grounds, according to the organizers’ recap. The artist was part of an activity that people could do together, rather than someone to watch from the other side of a barrier.

Plant a Seed with Of The Trees paired the artist with the Alderwild Nature Fund and WWALS Watershed Coalition / Suwannee Riverkeeper. Organizers say more than 1,000 attendees joined the experience and 250 native longleaf pine seedlings were planted. The reported totals describe participation in the activity; the longer-term results of that restoration work will take time to assess.

Serenity with Steller took another approach, using mindfulness and guided journaling at the Incendia Stage. A ride, a planting session and a moment to write ask different things of an audience. Each creates space for a shared interest beyond the next drop.

A lineup with room for collisions

The performances still supplied plenty of reasons to gather. Excision made his Hulaween debut, while KETTAMA also appeared at the festival for the first time. STS9 returned to Suwannee, and Of The Trees’ programming included a Memory Palace takeover and a surprise back-to-back set with LYNY, the festival reports.

Pretty Lights’ Saturday headline set encountered two generator interruptions. Organizers say they extended the performance by approximately 30 minutes. That detail belongs beside the celebration: an ambitious live event can have technical problems, and the response matters to the people who came to see it.

Saturday’s Shebang brought The Warren Haynes Incident to the stage with a program honoring the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band. The recap also records Karina Rykman’s sit-in with The String Cheese Incident, plus a late-night back-to-back-to-back set from Green Velvet, Tini Gessler and Jackie Hollander.

Sunday included Big Gramatik, the collaboration between Big Gigantic and Gramatik. Together, these bookings outline a festival interested in the meeting points between live playing, electronic production and improvisation.

The environment gets a part in the story

Spirit Lake’s installations, projection mapping and illuminated surroundings give the visual artists their own place in the weekend. The festival says its full 360-degree Spirit Lake experience returned this year, allowing attendees to explore around the entire lake.

The supplied photographs offer another route into that world: vividly lit structures sit among the trees, while costumes and handmade-looking details make the audience part of the visual scene. A photograph cannot tell us how a whole weekend felt. It can show the care put into creating somewhere people want to explore.

That is the thread we would keep following. Hulaween’s new activities suggest that the connection between an artist and an audience can grow through something as ordinary as a bike ride, or as patient as planting a seed. We would like to see how those ideas develop alongside the music.
