Shemane Nugent’s Terrifying Encounter

Shemane Nugent, the wife of Ted Nugent, recently shared a frightening wildlife encounter that was caught on her home security camera. She posted the footage on Instagram, showing a close call with a massive and potentially deadly animal just steps from her home.

The video captures Shemane and her dogs being confronted by a 450-pound scimitar horned oryx only about 30 yards from her front door. In the clip, she explains how serious the situation was and how quickly things could have turned tragic.

“Okay, what I’m about to show you is a life-threatening encounter I had with a 450-pound scimitar horned oryx,” Shemane said. “A lot of people think living out in the wilderness is about nature walks and planting a garden. It is—but there are real-life predators as well.”

How the Close Call Happened

Shemane admitted she made a mistake by letting her guard down that day. The footage was taken from her Ring camera as she was walking her dogs near her house.

“I’ll be honest with you, I’m accountable. I let my guard down,” she explained. “I usually carry with me everywhere I go. I thought, ‘What could go wrong?’ I was only 30 yards from my front door.”

She pointed out a chilling moment in the video where the oryx actually nudges one of her dogs.

“She Could Have Been Killed in a Heartbeat”

Shemane stressed just how dangerous the encounter was, both for her and her pet.

“By the grace of God, she could have been killed in a heartbeat,” she said. “Wait till you see the horns on this thing. It could have done the same thing to me.”

She revealed that she and Ted Nugent reviewed the full incident together and that a longer breakdown would be shared on YouTube.

“I do feel I was traumatized by this,” she added. “But I also feel it’s my responsibility to share this with you because there are predators out there.”

Why Oryx Encounters Happen in Texas

While scimitar horned oryx are native to northern Africa, they are now found in large numbers across Texas. Conservation efforts have saved the species from extinction, but the animals now live on private ranches throughout the state.

Experts note that both male and female oryx have long, curved horns measuring up to 45 inches and can weigh more than 400 pounds, making encounters like Shemane’s extremely dangerous, even though the animals are herbivores.

For rural Texans like the Nugents, the incident is a stark reminder that wildlife encounters can happen anywhere and without warning.
