Wolfgang Van Halen has posted about playing at Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert, “What an amazing young man Shane Hawkins is. We unfortunately have too much in common. I envy his strength, because I certainly don’t have it. Watching him with tears in my eyes obliterate My Hero just like his father in front of a sold out Wembley Stadium is something I will never ever forget. Kid’s got a bright future. I’m proud of you, Shane.”
Kesha was recently spotted with Foo Fighters member Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme, and Taylor Hawkins’ son, Shane at their concert in Wembley.
She dropped a series of pictures on Instagram with the caption:
“Just a bunch of dorks playing Wembley”
Foo Fighters pay tribute to Taylor Hawkins
Foo Fighters performed for a couple of hours at Wembley Stadium for a special tribute show for the late band drummer Taylor Hawkins last night. The whole line-up for the show had been leaked early, featuring a reunion of Dave Grohl’s Them Crooked Vultures. While performing 1997 hit ‘Monkey Wrench’, Grohl messed up the performance of the song as he seemingly forgot the lyrics to part of the song.
It was also noted that Shane Hawkins, the 16-year-old son of late Taylor Hawkins was also seen behind the drums. He played ‘My Hero’ along with the band, with Grohl turning at one point to watch his former band mate’s son play.
Hawkins, the band’s drummer since 1997, died in Bogotá, Colombia on March 25. He was 50 years old. On Saturday, September 3, together with the drummer’s family, Foo Fighters will celebrate Hawkins’ memory and music at a special gig in London. ‘The Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts’ also take over LA’s Kia Forum on September 27.
The huge line-up for London gig was completed recently with Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich, Blink-182‘s Travis Barker, AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson, Kesha and Dave Grohl‘s daughter Violet.
They were joined by a huge first wave of acts for the London show which included Liam Gallagher and Mark Ronson, alongside Queens Of The Stone Age‘s Josh Homme, Supergrass, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, Wolfgang Van Halen, The Pretenders‘ Chrissie Hynde and many more.
Grohl even broke down in tears at the start of the song Times Like These. He paused to weep as he sang a stripped-back version without instrumental backing. Grohl then launched into an emphatic performance as the band played their hits Pretender, My Hero, and Everlong.
