Waterparks’ Awsten Knight has shared a special treat on YouTube, on a channel which they promise they are “LOWKEY GONNA DROP SHIT THERE I CAN’T OFFICIALLY RELEASE”

One such treat is a first-draft demo of ‘A NIGHT OUT ON EARTH’, the track that serves as the closing crescendo on the band’s 2023 album ‘INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY’. On the record, it is luscious and expansive, a spaced-out piece of existential pop brimming with electronic booms, drum-and-bass beats, and layer upon layer of distortion and decadence.
To hear the song in this bare bones form is not just a rare treat but also a sign, if you needed one, of just how much goes into the crafting of a Waterparks song. It is rough and raw, but all of the elements are there, especially the barking dog that sits within the second verse. The delivery is what makes it feel different. There is intimacy to the song here, a little bit haunting, a little bit dark, a little bit more personal. The whizzes and bangs are not the focus; it is the sentiment.
More than anything, it is a showcase of the pinpointed genius that goes into the creative process, and that is something that everybody can appreciate.
The channel on which the demo was posted, LIMOUSINE AUX 2, has also been populated with a couple more gems from the archive.
There’s a ‘Home Demo’ of ‘American Graffiti’, which appeared on their 2021 album ‘Greatest Hits’, recorded in the living room.
And there is also a ‘Home Demo’ of ‘ST*RF*CKER’, showing it off in a different way.
Waterparks were also recently named as the winners of the 2025 Rock Sound Spirit Of The Scene Award.
