In August of last year, Aerosmith announced that they would be retiring from touring effective immediately due to frontman Steven Tyler sustaining a persistent vocal injury. Now, during a recent interview with WBUR, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton took some time to update fans on Tyler’s health.
“Steven’s healing process is going really, really well, but it goes at its own pace,” Hamilton explained. “Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big ‘if’, and the last thing I want to be doing is to try and push Steven in that direction.”
Hamilton continued, adding that the future of Aerosmith is ultimately up to Tyler. “If we do anything in the future, it would come from him.”
In an interview with Guitar World last year, Hamilton also hinted that the band may come back out of retirement at some point, saying:
“I find it hard to believe that we’ll never play again. I’ve been surprised by things that have happened with this band too many times to think that the future is closed.
“It was a punch in the gut finding out that our touring days are over. Maybe someday we can do something again, but it won’t be a tour.”
