Foo Fighters celebrated Taylor Hawkins’ memory and music at a special gig in London on Saturday, September 3. Hawkins, the band’s drummer since 1997, died in Bogotá, Colombia on March 25. He was 50 years old. Foo Fighters performed for a couple of hours at Wembley Stadium for a special tribute show for the late band drummer Taylor Hawkins. ‘The Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts’ also took place at LA’s Kia Forum on September 27.
Fans have been speculating on who will be behind the drum kit when Dave Grohl and co. hit the road later this Spring for their first headlining shows since Hawkins’ death. Recently, UK’s journal The Sun has claimed that the Foo Fighters had already found a replacement for the late Taylor Hawkins and that he’d be Pearl Jam and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron.
The outlet reported that a source said: “The Foos have been working with a number of musicians close to Taylor and the band over the past few months.
“Matt and Atom are front runners to drum at the gigs, the first of which is in May.
“Primarily it will be Matt but Atom will be on rotation with him. They have both been rehearsing at Studio 606, the Foos’ studio.
“Matt was a great friend of Taylor’s and is very close with the Foos’ frontman Dave Grohl.
“The final arrangements are being put in place but it’s looking very likely that Matt will be playing those gigs across the US in summer.”
Matt Cameron snubbed the rumors
Cameron, who was a close friend of the drummer, performing “Low” with the remaining Foos at last year’s tribute concert, has now directly addressed the rumors. On an Instagram story, the drummer wrote:
“FYI the internet rumors are false. I haven’t joined the Foos”
Speculation will then continue on who will be filling in for Hawkins when the Foos are back onstage, with their first gig scheduled for May 24 in Gilford, NH.
