mgk has released a new track with roots dating all the way back to 2018.

It’s called ‘times of my life’, and serves as one of the first pieces of music that mgk and Travis Barker collaborated on. A draft was initially made with the intention of appearing on 2020’s ‘Tickets To My Downfall’, but has now found new life as an extra piece from his ‘lost americana’ sessions.

It makes sense that the track was born at the start of the decade, as sonically it shares a lot of the same pop-punk and emo atmosphere that mgk was playing with around the time. Yearning acoustic guitars, deep piano keys, and Travis’ iconic drum patterns blend together to create a sound full of as much nostalgic earnestness as it is romantically vibrant.

It’s a wonderful palette cleanser for an era full of so much pomp and pep, and shows that Colson can still wear whatever hat he wishes at any time.

In an Instagram post, mgk, “i recorded this in 2018, it leaked years ago and went viral in my fan base too many times so today i am releasing it.”

So there we go.

mgk will be making his return to the UK and Europe in the Spring, with support coming from Julia Wolf.
