Kid Rock Recalls Supplying Tom Petty Marijuana Before Fame
Kid Rock has sparked fresh debate online after a resurfaced clip from The Joe Rogan Experience in which he claimed he once acted as Tom Petty’s marijuana hookup when Petty visited Michigan. The story has circulated again as Kid Rock celebrates a recent chart milestone for his cover of Cody Johnson’s “’Till You Can’t.”
In the clip, Kid Rock describes getting calls to “get Tom some weed” and says he would source marijuana through his brother before hand-delivering it and briefly chatting with Petty backstage. Taste of Country reported that Kid Rock told Rogan, “Dude, I used to be Tom Petty’s weed dealer,” adding that he considered the drop-offs “awesome” because he was a Petty fan, even though he said they “had nothing in common.”
The same story also revisits discussion from that interview about Petty’s death. Petty died on Oct. 2, 2017, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined the cause was an accidental overdose of multiple medications, according to the report.
Kid Rock’s comments to Rogan have generated controversy in recent years beyond music chatter, including backlash over language used in their conversations; Alternative Nation previously reported on Kid Rock and Joe Rogan being criticised for use of a slur following another episode-related flare-up.
While the weed-dealer claim remains Kid Rock’s own anecdote, the renewed attention underscores how his podcast appearances can quickly become headlines, especially when they touch on one of rock’s most revered late icons.
