Jane’s Addiction member Perry Farrell’s wife Etty Lau Farrell, revealed to Lion’s Share News that the band members are not on speaking terms after how their recent tour ended. However, she was hopeful that the band would reunite. She also revealed that Perry Farrell was doing great amid concerns regarding his mental health.
A shocking altercation between Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro took place a couple of months back. The incident saw Farrell appearing to purposely tackle Navarro on stage which led to a heated confrontation that left both the audience and band members shocked. Footage captured by fans shows that Farrell, in the middle of his meltdown, attempted to use his microphone as a weapon against his bandmates.
The tension between Farrell and Navarro reportedly escalated after Farrell got in Navarro’s face and began hurling insults at him. A confused Navarro could be seen asking what was going on, but before anyone could intervene, Farrell lunged at him. The situation escalated as Farrell started throwing punches, though it’s unclear if any landed on Navarro.
A day after the onstage meltdown, Etty Lau also attempted to provide context and background on what happened before the incident. On Instagram, she wrote:
“Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members.. the magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the first row, started complaining up to Perry cussing at him that the band was planning too loud and that they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it.”
Etty Lau also spoke about Farrell’s health on Instagram. She wrote: “As you know, Perry is the gentlest of souls. We are equally astonished at Perry’s physical outburst as you are – but you must know that Perry must had been pushed to his absolute limit.. to that end we apologize. We are taking a bit of time to ourselves, to reflect and to heal. Perry already has appointments with a otolaryngologist and a neurologist. If you know and love Perry well, you know there’s no need for me to address the other false narratives. Our souls know.”
Perry Farrell had previously apologized to Dave Navarro after their battle onstage. He wrote on Instagram:
“This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family, and friends for my actions during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in unexcusable behavior, and I take full responsibility for how I chose to handle the situation.”
The band were on a 23-city tour when the incident happened. The tour had kicked off on August 9th in Las Vegas and was scheduled to continue through their September 29th headlining St. Louis’ Evolution Festival. However, things went south for the band. In the wake of the altercation, they announced that they were calling off the rest of the tour and went on a hiatus.
