After one of the most competitive chart battles in recent years, Foo Fighters have achieved the Number 1 spot on the UK Albums Chart with ‘But Here We Are’.

The Foos were up against Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ latest album, ‘Council Skies’, with the number one spot switching between the two bands on a number of occasions throughout the week.

Over the last seven days the Foos album has racked up 44,500 chart units.

‘But Here We Are’ now marks Foo Fighters’ sixth chart-topping LP on the UK Albums Charts, with previous Number 1 spots for: ‘One By One’ (2002), ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ (2007), ‘Wasting Light’ (2011), ‘Concrete And Gold’ (2017) and ‘Medicine At Midnight’ (2021).

The album is a weighty, emotional record, as a consequence of it being the first Foos album since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in March last year, and since the passing of Dave Grohl’s mother, Virginia, in August.

The album speaks to the intense grief of both these experiences on virtually every track before concluding with the immensely cathartic ‘Rest’.

The fact the album has now secured the Number 1 spot is made all the more impressive given it was released with a very minimal promotional campaign, with no music videos or interviews.

Elsewhere in the charts this week, Avenged Sevenfold’s eighth studio record ‘Life Is But A Dream…’ yielded the heavy metal five-piece – and last week’s Rock Sound digital cover stars – their sixth UK Top 40, finishing 21st.
