In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Michael Anthony shared that he hasn’t heard back from Alex Van Halen. Anthony tried to reach Alex on his birthday in May, but Alex didn’t respond. Anthony decided not to keep trying to contact him and is now just waiting to read Alex’s upcoming book, Brothers. Van Halen also got revenge over John Bonham.
“No, I haven’t,” the bassist said when asked if he’s talked to Alex since the tour began with Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, and John Bonham. “In fact, the last time I tried to get a hold of Alex, I tried to get a hold of him on his birthday in May, and I did not hear back from him. So, I don’t know.”
Anthony hopes the book will focus on the positive aspects of their time together in Van Halen, rather than any conflicts, since Alex is not known for causing trouble.
“I didn’t wanna push it or keep trying to get a hold of him or whatever. I figured he knew that I tried to get ahold of him, I think, so I just kind of left it at that. God, at this point, I’m just waiting for his book to come out, so I can read that.”
“Alex, basically, like myself — I’ve never been one to wanna talk smack about the band or whatever, ’cause I choose to remember all the good stuff and all the good times that we had,” Anthony said about what he expects from Alex’s upcoming book, ‘Brothers.’
Before their tour started, Anthony invited Alex to join them on stage, but he hasn’t been able to connect with him. Anthony mentioned that while he and Sammy Hagar can perform Van Halen’s songs, it would have been great to have the other band members with them.
“It’d be great to get Alex out there [with us]. He’s obviously welcome anytime he wants to join us, but with Eddie passing… I’ve spoken with Alex a handful of times, and we speak more about family than anything else when we talk.”
The rocker then noted, “But I can put a band together and go out and play Van Halen music, but wouldn’t it be nice to have the other guys that are still around with you from the band to go out and play it too? And, unfortunately, Sammy and I are the only two guys right now. So, we said, ‘Hell, let’s go out and do it.’”
