The Nottingham trio’s DOG SONG introduces its playful side through a shaggy costume, heart-shaped shades and a one-day Skegness shoot.
A band called EARTH IS DOOMED! has sent us a picture of someone standing in the sea in a shaggy costume and red heart-shaped sunglasses. The outlook may be bleak. The wardrobe is doing its best.
The Nottingham trio’s introduction to Bubbling Box puts jazz, doom, spoken word and pop hooks in the same room. That is the band’s description of its musical world, and “DOG SONG” is its invitation to meet what the submission calls its “joyous and silly side.” According to the band, the single was released on September 10, 2026.
It is a promising little contradiction to find in the inbox. A name that sounds like the final announcement before the lights go out is attached to a seaside image with the confidence of a very unusual holiday postcard.
In the supplied video still, the costumed figure holds their arms out above the shallow water. The sky takes up an enormous stretch of the frame, wind turbines sit along the horizon, and the heart-shaped shades supply their own small weather system. There is no paragraph of explanation printed over the scene. The picture has been allowed to be funny on its own.
Harry Cooper told us the accompanying video was filmed in a single day in Skegness. He also explained that the trio—Martin Rayment, Harry Cooper and Woody Austin—created the video between them and chose the cover image together. It is a collective introduction, right down to deciding which seaside moment would represent the song.
What caught our attention is the gap between the imposing band name and the wonderfully unguarded image. It gives us a reason to look beyond a first impression and learn more about the people making the work. A little mischief can be an excellent introduction.
