The Devil Wears Prada Share Secret Throwback Track ‘Play The Old Sh*t’

The Devil Wears Prada have released a track that previously only existed as a secret at the end of the vinyl version of their latest album ‘Flowers’.

Titled ‘Play The Old Shit’, it’s as tongue-in-cheek as it is tenacious, combining the band’s modern melodic sensibilities with their old breakdown-laden brutality. It’s a note to all those who cannot stand the fact that the music the group wants to create may have changed over the years, but also don’t realise they are still the same people they always were. Though it’s a funny jab, it’s also a reminder that bands will always march to whatever beat they want; it’s up to you as a fan if you want to march to it too or not.

Because you don’t know them, and they don’t owe you.

Vocalist Mike Hranica had this to say about the song and the decision to release it, stating, ““Never have we played around with any kind of secret song, so it was really fun rolling out ‘Play the Old Shit’ vinyl-only. With that said, we’ve always known we’d release the song digitally, as well. The song is super straightforward, and within the context of the album, it provides a totally different ending in terms of mood. We are all very excited for listeners to check it out.”

‘Flowers’ is out now via Solid State Records. The Devil Wears Prada will be bringing it to the UK for a headline tour later this year. The dates look like this:

OCTOBER

20 – BRISTOL Electric
21 – LEEDS Project House
23 – LONDON Brixton Electric
24 – MANCHESTER New Century Hall
25 – BIRMINGHAM Institute 1
