Torben Ulrich, father of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and renown writer, musician, filmmaker and former professional tennis player, has died at 95 years old.
Torben had an incredible career in a few fields, though metal fans perhaps know him best from the infamous 2004 scene in Some Kind Of Monster where he tells Lars to delete a St. Anger track. Though that’s only a snapshot of the man’s life – Torben was well known as a musician and made a very serious career for himself as a tennis player between the ’40s and the ’70s. We wish Torben‘s friends and family all the best at this time, and hope they celebrate the man’s impressive life accordingly.
“Torben Ulrich: 1928-2023. 95 years of adventures, unique experiences, curiosity, pushing boundaries, challenging the status quo, tennis, music, art, writing….and quite a bit of Danish contrarian attitude,” wrote Lars in a post. “Thank you endlessly! I love you dad”
