Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda recently talked about ushering in a new era for the band and what the new album, From Zero defines.
Mike Shinoda opens up on the new album
The band recently reunited after the tragic passing of Chester Bennington, in 2017. They recently released a new single titled “The Emptiness Machine” from their upcoming album From Zero which marks the band’s first release of new music in several years.
Shinoda joined in for an interview with BBC and said: “This is not meant to be a re-do or re-write of Linkin Park. This is intended to be a new chapter of Linkin Park. The old chapter was a great chapter, and we love it. Now we’re faced with the challenge of ‘if you start from scratch, with another voice, what do you do?’”
Linkin Park recruited former Dead Sara singer Emily Armstrong to replace late Chester Bennington. The addition of Emily to the band garnered mixed reactions from the fans and Mike Shinoda has also addressed the same. Meanwhile, she has received support from Chester’s widow, Talinda Bennington. She seemingly approved of the band’s choice to replace Chester. But, Chester’s son, Jamie Bennington expressed his distaste.
During the interview, Shinoda was also asked how did it feel when he heard Emily’s voice for the first time? He replied: “I heard Weatherman, and the way she approaches and the way she thinks, the passion was the driver, and the style was the vehicle that got it out of her system. And I’ve always loved that.” Armstrong blushed after adulation from fans in a recent live video.
Recently, Chester’s mother revealed that she was “upset” over Linkin Park’s decision to replace Chester with Emily. During an interview with Rolling Stone, Susan Eubanks claimed that the nu-metal band had previously assured her that she would be notified about any future changes should its members continue performing as a group. However, Eubanks felt “betrayed” as the band, hired Emily as Bennington’s replacement.
