Ed Sheeran Gets Backlash For Hanging With Johnny Depp

Popular singer Ed Sheeran has faced major flak from the fans after he was spotted with Johnny Depp earlier this week.

Sheeran, Depp, and actor Russell Crowe were special guests at the three-day Tuscan event celebrating Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli’s 30th anniversary in music. Following the event on July 18, Crowe dropped a selfie on social media with the two. Sheeran appeared smiling in the selfie with Depp and Russell Crowe.

“Teatro del Silenzio backstage shenanigans with Teddy & Johnny,” the Gladiator star captioned the tweet. “Lubrication by Guinness. Perfect. Grazie Millie Maestro Andrea Bocelli. What an incredible experience.”

Now, the social media users are furious and calling for Sheeran to be canceled over the photo.

It has been noted that Crowe’s social media post caused a heated debate in the comments. Some Twitter users were surprised to see Sheeran with Depp. Sheeran’s fans lambasted the post because of Depp’s controversial reputation after his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard in 2022. Under Crowe’s post, one user commented:

“I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you! How dare you!”

Another wrote:

“Abusive men stick together.”

One user added:

“Depp should be locked up.”

Depp suffered a loss in his court case against The Sun in 2020 over an article that accused him of being a ‘wife beater.’ Since then, he has been working to improve his image and get back into acting.

In 2022, Depp won his high-profile defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard over an op-ed she wrote in 2018 in The Washington Post, in which she describes herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” Since the trials, he’s been working to repair his image and acting career.

Ahead of his guest performance at Bocelli’s concert, Bocelli labeled Depp “a disarmingly charming actor who has brought countless iconic characters to life on the big screen, this eclectic artist’s musical talents are equally intense: a bona fide rockstar loved and applauded everywhere.”

During the show, Depp joined Bocelli on stage, where they both honored the late Jeff Beck, who died suddenly in January 2023 after contracting bacterial meningitis. Depp played the guitar, while Bocelli sang “En Aranjuez Con Tu Amor,” the song Depp and Beck reportedly performed for Bocelli when they visited him years ago.
